Image Compression

Increase Image Size Online

Some portals reject photos for being too small in kilobytes, the opposite of the usual problem. This tool increases image file size toward a usable minimum by adjusting encoding characteristics, then shows the real resulting bytes so you can see whether the “too small” error should clear.

When larger is required

Legacy validators sometimes enforce minimum KB alongside maximums. A heavily compressed thumb can fail the minimum unexpectedly. Plain backgrounds and tight framing usually beat aggressive quality drops alone. Preview against both light and dark backgrounds when edges or transparency may change after encoding. Temporary processing is not archival storage, save the download you intend to submit.

What increasing size means technically

We are not inventing camera detail. We adjust output so the file weighs more while remaining a valid image. Preview still matters. If format and size rules conflict, solve format first with a converter, then return for kilobytes. Evenly lit, face-forward crops usually survive tighter budgets better than wide scenes. Portals care about clearing the limit more than hitting a precise byte total.

Not a substitute for higher resolution captures

If the portal wanted more pixels, use a resizer upward carefully, or reshoot. Kilobyte increase alone may not satisfy dimension rules. High-contrast badge lettering survives better than thin scripts at tight caps. Evenly lit, face-forward crops usually survive tighter budgets better than wide scenes. Honest outcomes

The result card shows actual bytes after processing. If a minimum still cannot be met reasonably, that limitation is reported. A second hidden rule (pixels, PNG-only, DPI) often explains “file still rejected” after a successful size pass. Avoid screenshotting the preview pane, download the generated file instead. Temporary processing is not archival storage, save the download you intend to submit.

Use with care on quality-sensitive photos

Padding weight can look no sharper. Judge the preview before submitting identity documents. Keep naming clean, odd double extensions confuse some intake scripts. Avoid stacked extensions like .jpg.jpg; intake scripts often choke on them. When format or pixel rules sit outside this page, finish those steps on the related tools linked nearby.

Before you resubmit after a too-small rejection

Resubmit only after the measured bytes clear the minimum. If the error was about pixels, resize instead. Avoid screenshotting the result pane; download the generated file for submission. Rename the download to a plain label plus one extension before submission. When format or pixel rules sit outside this page, finish those steps on the related tools linked nearby.

Verifying the download after increase image size

Batch mode still needs per-file review because portraits, screenshots, and logos respond differently. Save with a simple name and a single extension before you upload again. Before retrying, open the download once on the same device you will use to submit. Start from the original export whenever you still have it, not a chat-compressed copy. When format or pixel rules sit outside this page, finish those steps on the related tools linked nearby.

How this tool runs

Upload a supported image or fetch a public URL. The server processes the file for this tool and returns a real download. Labels on the result card come from the generated file.

Shared test method

This tool uses the same upload validation, processing, and download path described on How we test. Representative tools were last verified on 5 October 2026. Individual pages only show a PASS card when that slug was in the measured sample.

Technical reference

Everyday “JPEG” files follow the JFIF interchange pattern on top of JPEG compression. MDN summarizes the type, MIME value image/jpeg, and common extensions: MDN image file type guide.

Frequently asked questions

Does this add fake detail to faces?

No. It increases file weight; it does not reconstruct high-frequency detail that was never there. If a portal still rejects the upload, re-read format and size rules, both must match.

Can I target an exact minimum KB?

Follow the controls and result readout. Success is based on measured output, not a decorative label. Judge the downloaded file itself, not memory of how the preview looked a minute earlier.

Will dimensions always grow?

Not necessarily. Size in kilobytes and size in pixels are different. Check both on the result card. When alpha, pixels, and kilobytes collide, solve one constraint at a time with the matching tool.

Is this the opposite of compress tools?

Yes in intent. Use compressors when files are too large; use this when they are rejected as too small. Slightly under a maximum is usually acceptable; slightly over is a common silent failure.

Any security weakening?

No. Validation, limits, and cleanup rules still apply to uploads and outputs. If quality collapses, recrop tighter or negotiate a higher official limit instead of looping compressors.
